because I said I wouldHow often do you follow through on what you said you would, or not?

I don’t know if loyalty is an inherent quality in me just because I’m Capricorn (which is one of our traits), or just because it is, but being loyal to myself, my word and the people in my life is at the top of my list of things that matter to me the most.

But unfortunately, so often I see so many people who don’t value loyalty as the same virtue I do, and it can be really disappointing.

Not just for me, but for them too.

The way I see it is, it’s simple.  Do what you say you will.  It’s not hard, or complicated, but some people make it so.  They muddle up promises with excuses, and blame circumstances or other people for their failure to follow through on something they said they would do.

I do it simply because I said I would.

Personally, I feel jeopardizing my reputation is way too important to compromising when it comes to making good on a promise.  I don’t want to be known as someone who’s all talk and no show.  In business, it’s unparalleled, especially when dealing with money and finances.

So what makes someone flake?  I think it’s any number of reasons.  But first, it’s important to know who someone is and where their priorities are.  Addictions run deep in society and for the most part, any addict makes their fix their #1 priority every day, which makes them hardly reliable.

And as we’re all taught as kids, we come first!  Kids are just naturally selfish by nature, because they require so much care as babies and toddlers.  The problem lies in the fact that some adults don’t realize they’re not kids anymore and therefore never stop being so selfish.

Hand raised!  Being the youngest of four, I was spoiled and grew into an adult who wanted everything given to her.  Not that I’m not a hard worker but whenever something happened I didn’t know how to handle, I just wanted someone else to handle it for me.

Because that’s what I learned as a kid.  In other words, cry and get your way.

Although I don’t consider myself someone who reneges on a promise, I know most of my 20’s and 30’s were all about me.  So I have to wonder if somewhere along the way, I flaked too.

The point is though, it’s not ok.  It’s out of integrity and changes the way people think of you in terms of your reliability and trustworthiness, which can effect everything, from relationships to jobs to getting ahead.

Who wants to give a promotion to someone they can’t count on?  And who wants to loan money to someone they don’t trust to pay it back?

It might seem like that broken promise over something small didn’t matter, and “they should just get over it,” but the truth is, your lack of follow through means a lot more than that.

On the one hand, don’t make a promise you can’t keep, and on the other, if you do, keep it.  It’s totally understandable that sh*t happens and maybe you can’t get to it as fast as you wanted to, but true integrity means you get to it as soon as you can without fail.

Or you make up for it in some way of equal or greater value.

We’re human, and by no means perfect, but [bctt tweet=”owning up to our responsibilities in life makes for a much more cohesive union between people.”] Trust that if you’re experiencing turmoil in any part of your life, it’s not because of something going on outside of you like you’re apt to think.

It’s because of something going on inside of you, and that something just might be something you didn’t do that you didn’t think mattered.
