{"id":5972,"date":"2013-08-19T06:00:11","date_gmt":"2013-08-19T10:00:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/angelaminelli.com\/blog\/?p=5972"},"modified":"2022-08-25T22:24:53","modified_gmt":"2022-08-26T03:24:53","slug":"3-ways-get-more-energy-even-people-drain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/angelaminelli.com\/blog\/3-ways-get-more-energy-even-people-drain\/","title":{"rendered":"3 Ways to Get More Energy Even Around People Who Drain You"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\t<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"jumping\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-5974\" height=\"150\" src=\"http:\/\/angelaminelli.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/08\/ways-to-increase-your-energy-naturally-150x150.jpg\" width=\"150\" \/><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">If you want to increase your energy naturally, there&#39;s one thing you need to consider:&nbsp;stress. &nbsp;Or in other words, how stressed you are!<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tMany times, stress occurs as&nbsp;result of an inability to effectively manage your&nbsp;emotions in relation to the people around you, including coworkers, friends, and family.&nbsp; But what do you do about people you&rsquo;re forced to be around or who you love but at the same time, drain your energy and leave you exhausted?\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIt&rsquo;s a conundrum, and effects a large percentage of my client base, especially those who have a hard time saying no to someone or try to be too nice too often.&nbsp; They feel a sense of obligation, and feel guilty if they do.&nbsp; Most of these women are what I would classify as &ldquo;nice girls.&rdquo;&nbsp; In other words, they<strong> overwork, overtire, and overstress themselves &#8211;&nbsp;<\/strong>to their own detriment &#8211; due to a deep-seated need to be liked or out of fear being rejected.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tA lot of women who are too nice or can&rsquo;t say no when they should grew up in a household where they were not accepted, and it was scary.&nbsp;&nbsp;After all, if your own biological parents don&rsquo;t accept you, who will?&nbsp; At least that&rsquo;s the message you get, and it&rsquo;s devastating.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAs a&nbsp;child, you&rsquo;re desperate to be loved, and you&rsquo;ll do anything to get it.&nbsp; It&rsquo;s a basic human need so it makes perfect sense to act from a place of wanting or neediness, yet as an adult, it can become an incredibly dysfunctional pattern that drives every decision you make as well as your reactions to everyday situations.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tFor example, you&rsquo;re most likely the one to stay late at work, cover extra shifts, do your kids homework <em>for <\/em>them, cook dinner even after a full day, host the next PTA gathering.&nbsp; You catch my drift. &nbsp;The flip side is, people know you&rsquo;ll say yes, which is why they ask, causing you to build up resentment, annoyance and frustration.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tBut unlikely, you&#39;ll say anything about it. (Just a guess \ud83d\ude09 )\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tPeople who take advantage of you do get exhausting, but it&#39;s hardly they&#39;re fault, because they&rsquo;re only doing it because they know they can.&nbsp; So how do you <strong>stop this speeding train <\/strong>of self-inflicted self-neglect, lessen the impact it&rsquo;s having on your stress levels, your health and body, and ultimately find ways to increase your energy?&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tHere are my top 3 tips:\n<\/p>\n<h3>\n\t<strong>1.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>Learn to say no!<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/h3>\n<p>\n\tOk, maybe this one was obvious, and&nbsp;I know this can be uncomfortable, especially if you&rsquo;re not used to it.&nbsp; You&rsquo;re worried what people will think, what they&rsquo;ll say, if you&rsquo;ll hurt their feelings, etc., etc., etc.&nbsp; STOP!&nbsp; None of that is any of your business.&nbsp; Learning to say no is an excellent first step toward <strong>setting appropriate boundaries in your life<\/strong> and developing a closer, more intimate relationship with yourself, one you are most likely least&nbsp;familiar with.&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIf it is uncomfortable at first, just sit with the discomfort. &nbsp;<span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">I promise it won&rsquo;t kill you and you&rsquo;ll thank yourself when you have more free time &ndash; and more energy &#8211; to indulge in something you&rsquo;d rather be doing later on.<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<h3>\n\t<strong style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">2.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/strong><strong style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">Change your diet.<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/h3>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">Easier said than done, right?&nbsp; Noted, and yet, eating foods that support your physiology has a tremendous impact on your outlook on life and how well you manage your day-to-day affairs.&nbsp;<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">Eating for emotional reasons, cravings for certain foods, eating too fast, binge eating or overeating are all reactionary behaviors and can be linked to high stress and a need for control.&nbsp; When you <\/span><strong style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">feel powerless over your life,<\/strong><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"> you seek control&nbsp;in whatever way you can get it, and if you&rsquo;re a people pleaser, like so many women are, you&rsquo;re unlikely to find it in your relationships, hence it shows up in how and why you eat.&nbsp;<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">Filling the nutritional gaps left by junk foods or nutritionally dense&nbsp;foods like GMO&rsquo;s goes a long way in creating a sensation of fullness, giving you ammo against sometimes fictional&nbsp;hunger pangs and supplying your body with energy that truly&nbsp;lasts all day.&nbsp; The&nbsp;key here is to eat organic, whole foods as often as possible. &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<h3>\n\t<strong style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">3.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/strong><strong style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">End toxic relationships.<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/h3>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">Some people are never going to get it, and that includes your workplace, in which case, it just may be time to go.&nbsp; Relationships, including jobs, run their course, and have a natural start stop cycle.&nbsp; Some last a lifetime, some not so long.&nbsp; And if the relationship with the job, or person,&nbsp;isn&#39;t supportive, then it can&rsquo;t last. &nbsp;Period.&nbsp;<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">Your partner, friend, boss, or family member may try to keep you stuck in your old patterns by pitching a fit when you say no or refuse to engage in your old behavior, but don&rsquo;t let that fool you.&nbsp; That&rsquo;s <\/span><em style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\">their<\/em><span style=\"line-height: 1.6em;\"> dysfunction, not yours, and one you cannot afford to tolerate any longer. &nbsp;<\/span>\n<\/p>\n<p>\n\tIt&rsquo;s up to you to make sure you weed out people or places who are trying to get from you versus those who genuinely have your best interest at heart.&nbsp;
